Shoe-of-the-day: Louboutin

These are gorgeous. And would be great for the holidays or New Year's. I like that they are not typically flashy and shiny but are still showstopping.

Shoe-of-the-day: J-41

These are slightly different than some of my regular posts, but for some reason I really like these wedges by J-41. Maybe it's the combo of sweet w/ rugged? Or the chunky sole that looks like you could almost go hiking and still have super-cute feet?

I also don't know really anything about this J-41 company. It looks like it's owned by Chrysler...?! And that it's based on Jeep (as in the car) technology...interesting. I also like the motto 'Adventure On' and the map on the sole of each shoe.

Shoe-of-the-day: White House Black Market

Sometimes things are just black and white....or silver!

Again probably not winning any environmentalist points with this one... but it's so shinnnyyy

Shoe-of-the-day: Ed Hardy

Okay I get no points from the environment today b/c I'm not so sure that the Ed Hardy brand is super sustainable.... but I love the graphics on these! (Though I did notice on the shoes website lots of talk about organic fabric, hemp, etc, I can't find that on the main site....?)

Shoe-of-the-day: TOMS

Pretty much anyone who has paid attention to eco-fashion in the past few years has heard of TOMS Shoes. They are well known for their "One for One" campaign which donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair you buy. It's another one of those companies where I adore their philosophy and think they're doing amazing things but I have a hard time liking the design of the products... however, I really like this new boot they have.

I think I would like this in either Olive or Rust, both are such good Fall/Winter colors!

Treehugger also has a good article highlighting the company complete w/ YouTube video stressing the importance of remembering those less fortunate during that gluttonous time known as the holidays.

Reminders: Redress Raleigh

Redress Raleigh 2010 updates!

We are still looking for some volunteers - email  us at greenfashionshow@gmail.com if you can help out, either before, during, or after the show. Thanks!

We are now seeking sponsors. Considering last year's show sold out all 100 seats and was filled to well over capacity, RR 2010 would be an awesome way to market your company and show support for the local community.

And finally, do you want to design for the show? Redress Raleigh Applications should be submitted by the end of this month so don't procrastinate! For the first stage we are looking for some inspirational images to show what your concept for the show is - whether this is a color, animal, abstract idea, etc, is up to you!

Shoe-of-the-day: Simple

It's been foggy and cold and rainy the past few days and I think these boots would be perfect to take off the chill - like a favorite chunky sweater. I honestly haven't been the biggest Simple shoes fan in the past few years. I love the company's eco-friendliness and wanting to 'do good' but I haven't always liked the styles. I've noticed recently though that they've introduced some new ones - including the above - that seem to put an emphasis on aesthetics as well as sustainability.

Green My Style: Top 10 Glam Party Heels

While browsing around on the web for various things I stumbled upon this great slideshow of Top 10 Party Heels from Green My Style and it features quite a few of my faves that I have posted on here before - Beyond Skin, Terra Plana, Hetty Rose, etc. And I'll have to check out the new ones I haven't heard of before!

Enjoy!

Shoe-of-the-day: Dior

For many of us the holiday season craziness is in full swing and we may be feeling a little StReSSeD! These shoes (Dior courtesy of Saks Fifth Ave) to me would be the perfect counterbalance to that - fun and sexy and not 'save the earth' at all - oh well! Happy freakin' holidays!

Shoe-of-the-day: Nina Dolcetti

I am obsessed with t-straps!

I thought I had posted this company before but it doesn't seem like it. I like the simplicity but beauty of these Nina Dolcetti designs. Again this is coming out of the UK (as a lot of eco-fashion does, argh!) but it's always fun to 'window shop'.

Shoe-of-the-day: Ecouterre and Terra Plana

I have been a fan of Terra Plana for a while now, but have recently come to adore the (relatively new) website Ecouterre which recently featured an awesome post on these new quilted booties. They have some of the best eco-fashion articles with pictures and such a killer variety compared to some of the others out there.

And side note for locals - Vert and Vogue  in Durham is the only place nearby that I know of carrying Terra Plana. If there are others I would love to know!

Shoe-of-the-day: Via Spiga

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today (and every day!) I am thankful for shoes. And imagine my delight when I stumbled upon these beautiful Via Spiga shoes courtesy of Nordstrom named after yours truly. And you may have noticed they are even in one of my favorite colors. Today is a great day!

Shoe-of-the-day: Nine West

I was looking for something spiky but happened upon these beauties by Nine West. I love the color cognac. And these look comfy and sexy at the same time. Great summer sandals.

Shoe-of-the-day: Cleo B

From the shape of the wedges to the color, these are magnificent pumps from Cleo B. Called 'Astrapia' after a bird of paradise, these definitely have an exotic elegance.

Tribute to Koko Taylor

Tribute to one of the true blues greats: Koko Taylor, an amazingly talented heartfelt blues woman, who passed away yesterday. I truly wish the world recognized real musicians like this more.

Shoe-of-the-day: Lillybee

These adorable Lillybee flats remind me of the color of the ocean in Italy. I miss both of those - the ocean and Italy!

Shoe-of-the-day: hand-painted pumps

I always wonder how 'hand-painted' wears with shoes.... but I do like the design of these from one of my favorite places to 'shop' - Etsy.

It's about time NC - smoking is Disgusting!

Beginning in January, smoking in restaurants and most bars in North Carolina will be illegal.

Perdue signs NC smoking ban

I could care less about 'government imposed restrictions' and 'loss of freedom' and all of the BS that's been spouted about this subject. I am generally a logical person, but not on this. Smoking stinks, it's disgusting, and it kills. I wish they would ban it from the planet. But this is a good start.

Shoe-of-the-day: Sole Rebels

So I don't really like flip-flops. But I was thinking about California (I am visiting there soon)... and actually maybe getting some sleep and not having anything technically planned for a full day. These flip flops seem to compliment those ideas. And soleRebels is based out of a village in Ethiopia and 'produces the finest artisan-crafted footwear using only eco-sensible materials'.

Not an Oprah fan

I, for one, am not one of those who thinks everything Oprah says and does is golden. I don't even really think she's a particularly good talk show host. But apparently a large portion of the country does listen to this woman's endless chatter as was evidenced by the ridiculous promotion of KFC she recently mentioned on her show that caused a rush (and near riots according to some) of people to the chain restaurant.

The stupidest part of it all (that you'll read if you clicked on the above link) is that she had just had a show detailing the 'dark side of chicken factory farming'. Ahh hypocritical celebrities, how you are loved in America.

Shoe-of-the-day: Hetty Rose

Every single pair of shoes on the Hetty Rose site could be my pick for shoe-of-the-day. They're gorgeous and beautifully made - from vintage kimono fabric, no less! At some point in my life I would love to have a pair of shoes handmade just for me. One day.....

Project Earth Day 2009

A lot of you may know one major reason that I got involved in planning Redress Raleigh was b/c NYC EGB has a great eco-fashion show- Project Earth Day. (Pic above from a great article on Inhabitat.) It's pretty amazing... they have both a student comp. and designer comp. And I'm totally in love with this dress. It should be in my closet.

Shoe-of-the-day: Mustard yellow!

To counteract some of the darker posts I've had recently (and to try to get back to posting more eco-friendly options) I was looking for something sunny, and this mustard yellow pump from Vegan Chic is pretty much perfect.

Shoe-of-the-day

I'm not feeling very 'save the world, love the animals' today, hence the Casadei 3 1/2" heel snakeskin bootie (via FootCandy).

Shoe-of-the-day: MINK shoes

Mink shoes are vegan (basically not leather) shoes handmade in Italy. They do expressly state their eco-friendly goals on the 'Story' page (kudos!) but the thing I like most is that all the shoes are named after animals - this is the Armadillo.

Shoe-of-the-day: CYDWOQ Inc.

CYDWOQ Inc. is one of the most original companies I've found in my search for ethical/sustainable shoes. I adore the 'Metal' shoe in particular. Their designs are handmade and designed to last and they look unlike anything you would see in a modern shoe store - which I think is awesome!

There is a really cool documentary (short, like 5 min) on the company on Vimeo by Ari Balouzian that showcases many of the designs on film.

"Old world craftsmanship for modern feet."

Shoe-of-the-day: Beyond Skin

I originally found this company through a fave eco-friendly shoe and clothing website, The Green Loop. Beyond Skin is a UK company that was founded in 2001. I swear they used to have something to do with Natalie Portman (or that she had something to do with them) but I may have made that up in my head. Regardless, I wish I was closer to the UK as they have a great philosophy and beautiful designs.

Eco-salon article: Is Eco-fashion too expensive?

Stumbled upon an article on one of the eco-fashion related sites I frequently visit. The article asks six designers their opinion on the expense of sustainable fashion. The two main points I often find in articles like this are: 1. The materials used are generally more expensive. 2. The demand is not yet high enough to reduce price.

There are a couple good points though on the subjectiveness of 'expensive' and how eco-clothing is often seen as more lasting, not 'disposable' as other items can be.

Treehugger: Edible fashion slideshow

So a lot of people have misconceptions about what 'eco-fashion' is and I think this feeds into one of them. While I appreciate some of the ideas behind these and how they're often trying to draw attention to waste and creative ways to use materials, sometimes I wonder if this actually hurts the cause instead of helping b/c it makes it seem frivolous and not particularly wearable.

Shoe of the day: Olsen-Haus killer red boots

Olsen-Haus is such a cool company - good design AND eco-friendly.

I love this 80s paint splatter look they had for some of their Spring 2009 collection.

Happy Earth Day!

This seems like an appropriate first post to explan my mind set and sense of humor.

Happy Earth Day, from Lewis Black and Spongebob Squarepants!

(Courtesy of Earth First, sarcasm to save the earth at its finest.)
